sports mack-eting

im not going to lie. im intrigued by sports marketing.

since the basketball season has begun. lets go take a look at some of the prominent athletes getting the most attention:


T-MAC
the campaign behind tracy mcgrady is a very interesting one. if you watch one of the ads you will notice the narrator is a black kid telling a tall tale story of tracy mcgrady and in the end of this fable the boy will say, "and that's what really happened"

im pretty sure everyone here is familiar with lebron james..especially with his amazing deal with NIKE courtesy of his amazing PR rep and Sports Agent

honestly, the best campaign has to be of AI at the moment. the whole "I am what i am" is an amazing slogan and definitely capitalizes on individualism better than the other two. does it beat the jumpman 23 campaign? heh..i dunno but here is a photo:

so you're probably surprised by bassam posting photos of stupid shoe companies capitalizing on kids nutting over basketball icons.

i dont look at it that way. i am more intrigued by the fact that these athletes are real. i mean think about. when tom cruise plays jerry mcguire. people fall in love with jerry mcguire not tom cruise.so when they see tom cruise walking around the streets, that isnt jerry mcguire, that is a whole different person.

but with these athletes, it's a different story. each of these guys; when they are on the court, that is who they are. when they lose a long game, when they rally up their team, when they pull that cross over, throw that touch down and dunk that ball.. that is them. they are the ones playing on the courts and fields.

usher can record an album, act in a movie, create a clothing line, but his chances of being picked in the nba draft are very slim
